» Hey guys - I started a blog based on not being a feminist.
Go ahead - give me crap for it. If it’s intelligent and well worded and not full of hate, we can probably have a good debate about it. If it is - then you’re probably the type of feminist I hate.
I’m Katie, I’m 19, and after a rage-filled few nights of being attacked over the internet by feminists and having my strongly worded response to a rant published on more than one feminist site, I decided to start this blog for the purpose of gathering females with similar opinions to my own or other anti-feminist opinions. For those of us that will greet our spouse home from work with a sandwich and a smile, or those of us that just enjoy pantyhose and pretty things. Also for intelligent debate. Also that.
Oh brother.
You said it, gal.
I’m a feminist, I’m feminine, and I wear pantyhose. From Nordstrom. I’ve also made a sandwich for my man, and didn’t find it degrading in the slightest; there’s nothing wrong with doing a favor for a parallel counterpart.
Feminism to me is a movement that serves to mainstream the message that we’re all equal—it’s not solely a movement that goes against societal gender roles which promotes bra burning and hairy armpits.
Was it really necessary to create a blog about being anti-feminist to prove this point. Feminist can be feminine, we should all be well aware of that by now.
Shiiiiiiiit, feminism is everything. It’s fucking feminine, it’s masculine, it’s both, it’s neither, it doesn’t even care. It’s for everyone fucking one. The housewife, the board executive, don’t matter. The thing that is cracking me up the fucking hardest about this blog is that she’s looking at it from the same societal view of feminism: BRA-BURNING MASCULINE CHICK WHO EMASCULATE THEIR DUDES (IF THEY EVEN HAVE DUDES I MEAN COME ON WHO REALLY WANTS TO DATE A FEMINIST) and then decides that going to the faaaaaaaaaaaaar right is way to “fight” it. Girl, please. Dress up in your pantyhose, make a meal for your man—I ain’t even mad. No one cares. Just don’t spiel your bullshit in the name of…whatever your name is (seriously what is the point of this blog tho) because you look tragic as hell.
I will never understand anti-feminist women, from Phyllis Schlafly on down to women who classify feminists as “dykes”.
I feel like there’s a difference between anti-feminism (being against feminism) and being anti-feminist. I am glad feminists in the 20th century fought for (and earned) equal rights, but by and large, feminism today is semantic, and reaching out for anything to be mad about. I love my equal rights, but 3rd wave feminism is total nonsense.
Women in the U.S. today have equal right recognized by law but that doesn’t mean that they get recognized or upheld. It’s easy to find social situations to be mad about (slut-shaming, general male-dominated social situations, male-centric views in general) and a lot of people can’t get on board with saying “women can have sex with who they want and not be sluts” “a woman can speak her mind and not be a bitch”, but how can we argue over the fact that rape and sexual assault happen? Or that in other countries women don’t have the same rights recognized by their government? I don’t even give a single fuck about the woman making this blog because it obviously has nothing to do with feminism as I see it. I like a lot of things that are feminine and I want to be a teacher/wife/mother among other things. I don’t think that has anything to do with being a feminist though…
I think that this person, and whoever was criticizing her are both confused. It seems as if she has the mistaken impression that feminists think that making a sandwich for your boyfriend is somehow an affront to the feminist movement. Now, I don’t pretend to know a lot about attitudes within the feminist movement about pantyhose and making sandwiches, but I think you can still be a feminist if you make someone a sandwich, or if you happen to occasionally wear pantyhose. I think people are getting confused, because I don’t see how making sandwiches could somehow bar you from being interested in equal rights for women.
One thing is very clear though. If you are a woman who isn’t a feminist - you better take some time and reevaluate your world view. If you are any person who is not a feminist, you should take some time and reevaluate your world view. The only valid excuse you could possibly have is if you are a rich old republican congressman. Equality amongst people is a very American idea - or at least that is what we are told in school, and led to believe practically everywhere else. Total equality, not necessarily limited to a social level - but in this case limited, is also a very radically democratic idea and if there is one thing that scares rich, old, white, republicans it would definitely be total equality amongst American citizens.
If you don’t believe in equal rights, you don’t believe in democracy, and I don;t think you should call yourself a US citizen while wearing a straight face. Honestly, you should really believe in democracy.
But I am ranting now. Point is, make your sandwiches, wear your pantyhose. I would wager that these things don’t even register on the radar of the feminist movement anymore. Small potatoes, as it were. Reblog with a comment if I’m being an idiot/ignorant of whatever the real issue is, because it really seems like the girl who made the blog, and whoever was giving her a hard time in the first place are missing the point of the entire feminist movement.
